last week, after the office, i dropped by at al haya in dharmawangsa area.
al haya means 'life' in arabic *somehow it's similar to my name *.
i've never been there before and i know about the place from a magazine. it's an islamic bookshop with cafe. a nice place in a nice neighborhood. too bad they only sell islamic books there.

him: the subtitle in dvd is so funny, they even write down something like 'the sound of window opens' or 'wind blows'.
me: maybe because they want the deaf people to enjoy the movie too.
him: i wonder how's the movie for the blinds. |

since i claimed bali as one of my home, i visit bali blog frequently.
yesterday i found from here this interesting posting about history:
Ambon and Banda are part of what used to be called 'the Spice Islands'. They are what Christopher Columbus was searching for when he found America. Columbus's mandate was to find the islands where mace, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg were from. He had a box filled with these and would ask natives if their island grew these. On his voyages to the Americas natives would say' No we don't have that here, but maybe on the next island.' He never found the Spice Islands, as he was completely on the wrong side of the World.
well, i know columbus looked for the spice islands, but i didn't know he got samples to show to the local . |

just something to read, i learned about cultures, languages, history, philosophy, etc. and most of the knowledge i got is a unique ones. not that something i can find in other books .
the book is thick (almost 700 pages) and it took me a couple of days to finish it. most of the time, i read it on the airplane to and from kuala lumpur.
and yes, it's a good one . not as good as ca bau kan. but still worth to read it. it's about as good as parisj van java, his other book.
